Nassau Police ID Man Wanted For Fatal Hit-And-Run

Police say Joshua Roston ran over and killed a gas station manager in order to steal $22 of gasoline.

Nassau County police have identified the man they say ran over and killed a gas station manager earlier this week, and they're seeking the public's help to find him.

Police say that 33-year-old Joshua E. Roston, of Baldwin, ran over and killed Cemal Dagdeviren, 59, of Levittown on Monday morning.

According to police, Roston pulled into the Pit Stop gas station, located at 1210 Grand Ave. in South Hempstead, just before 7:20 a.m. and asked the attendant to fill up his car. The employees became suspicious because his car had no license plates or registration sticker. They stopped filling his car after putting $22 worth of gas into it and asked him to pull aside.

Police say that Roston told Dagdeviren that he would pay with a credit card, which police say was a fake. Dagdeviren told him to pay with cash, but the man said he didn't have any, despite showing a $50 bill to the attendant earlier.

Roston then tried to leave the station, police say, and Dagdeviren tried to stop him. He got in front of Roston's car, and then Roston ran him over on purpose, police say.

The photo police supplied of Roston is from a previous arrest for petty larceny. Roston was driving a 1999 GMC Suburban at the time of the hit-and-run, which police say they now have.

Anyone with information about Roston or his whereabouts is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous, and you could receive a cash reward if your information leads to an arrest.
