Nassau Teen Charged In Stabbing Death Of Homeless Man

Police say the teen stabbed the man, who then collapsed in front of a nearby laundromat.

Nassau County police arrested a Hempstead teenager and charged him in the murder of a homeless man in front of a laundromat last week.

Jose Ulisiz Ortiz-Trochez 18, of Cornell Street, Hempstead, was arrested on Monday and charged in the stabbing death of Juan Gabriel Chic Sian, 35, who died on March 29.

Sian was found outside of Laundry Palace, located at 416 Clinton St., at 12:07 a.m. on March 29 . He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died at 1:07 a.m.

According to Newsday, police said Sian and Ortiz-Trochez got into a fight at a park across the street from the laundromat, where he was stabbed in the torso, after drinking heavily. He then walked to the nearby parking lot, where he collapsed. He was found by workers at the laundromat.

Police say that Ortiz-Trochez illegally entered the country from Honduras two weeks ago, Newsday reported.

Ortiz-Trochez is charged with second-degree murder and is scheduled to be arraigned today in First District Court in Hempstead.
