NCC Board to Begin Interviewing Candidates for President
The college's board of trustees will hold a special meeting Aug. 22.

The Nassau Community College board of trustees will begin interviewing candidates for the office of president at a special meeting Aug. 22.
The public meeting, which begins at 6 p.m., will be held on the 11th floor of the Administrative Tower. The board is expected to enter into executive session at 6:05 p.m. for the confidential interviews and will resume the public session at approximately 8 p.m.
Dr. Kenneth Saunders assumed the position of acting president of the college in January 2013. He formerly served as NCC’s officer in charge since July 30, 2012. Dr. Saunders will remain as acting president of NCC for one year, or until a permanent president is appointed, whichever occurs first.
The board held a special meeting May 16 in order to discuss, among other things, the election of a chair to fill the unexpired term of Geoffrey Prime, former head of the college's governing board who resigned. Two weeks later, the board called another special meeting to meet with representatives of the chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY) to discuss and act on matters relating to the college's search for a new president.
Almost 23,000 full- and part-time students and nearly 15,000 continuing and professional students attend Nassau Community College. It is the largest single-campus, two-year college in New York State.
