The Oprah-backed chain shut 12 locations nationwide and says staff will be paid for hours worked, keep benefits through October, and may transfer to remaining restaurants where possible.

• Barbara S. Schauf (gcnews.com) — Longtime Garden City resident and nursery school teacher Barbara Sandwick Schauf, who raised nine children and taught at the Garden City Community Church for 18 years, has died at 93. Her life of welcoming neighbors, supporting children, and nurturing a large family will be celebrated at a memorial service at Garden City Community Church on Friday, October 9, at 11 a.m.
