Garden City Police Department Welcomes New Officer

Three-year veteran of the MTA Police Department joins the village ranks.

Another police officer joined the village ranks on April 26, taking his oath of office with Commissioner Kenneth Jackson by his side. This now brings the Garden City Police Department complement to 52.

Michael Hertling was born and raised in Oceanside and resides with his parents, Dawn and Dave, and younger brother, Ryan. His father is a Sergeant with the MTA Police. After graduating from Oceanside High School in 2011, Officer Hertling attended Oneonta State University, Nassau Community College and Queens College. At Nassau he played college baseball.

He was hired by the MTA as a police officer in 2015 and worked in Manhattan patrolling Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station. Hertling remained with the MTA police until accepting this position with the Garden City Police Department.

“I am pleased to announce the addition of Officer Hertling to the Garden City Police Department. As a three-year veteran of the MTA Police Department, his experience should prove invaluable to a Village that has multiple train tracks and five railroad stations,” Commissioner Jackson said. “In addition, his experience in homeland security and the patrol function will also be an asset to the Police Department.”
