Son Arrested After Threatening Father With Gun: Garden City PD

Here are all of the incidents that the Garden City Police Department reported for the week ending April 17.

  • Property was reported stolen from a car parked at a Garden Street home and from a car parked at a Magnolia Avenue home on April 11.
  • A 65-year-old man from Brooklyn was arrested for unauthorized use of a car on April 11. He borrowed a resident’s vehicle and never returned it.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on Franklin Avenue and 15th Street on April 11. Upon investigation, the driver, a 27-year-old woman from Elmont, was arrested for DWI. It was then determined the woman had just left the scene after striking and damaging a parked, unoccupied car on Franklin Avenue, in the vicinity of 9th Street. In addition to DWI, she was charged with excessive speed and leaving the scene of an accident.
  • Garden City detectives arrested a 52-year-old man from Massachusetts on April 12 for sending numerous threatening and harassing emails to an Old Country Road business.
  • Officers responded to Greenridge Park on April 12 for a report of a vehicle striking and damaging a tree. Upon arrival, the vehicle was still at the scene, but the driver, a 21-year-old man from Franklin Square, left the scene. He was found at his home and arrested for leaving the scene of an accident.
  • A truck traveling southbound struck the Cherry Valley overpass on April 12. The top of the truck was damaged. No injuries were reported. The driver, a 27-year-old man from Brooklyn, was charged with disobeying bridge clearance signs.
  • After an extensive investigation, Garden City detectives arrested a 40-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both from Brooklyn, on April 13 for numerous cases of identity theft where they attained the personal information of residents, obtained false driver licenses using their information and then opened up credit cards used to make fraudulent purchases at various stores across Long Island. The man was charged with seven counts of identity theft, seven counts of larceny and one count of forgery. The woman was charged with eight counts of possession of forged instruments as well as one count each of larceny, forgery and identity theft. On April 15, Detectives arrested a third person in the case, a 28-year-old woman from Queens, and charged her with two counts of identity theft, one count of larceny and one count of forgery. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending.
  • Officers arrested a 24-year-old man from Glen Cove for intentionally damaging an ornamental flowerpot in front of a Franklin Avenue business.
  • A vehicle left the scene after knocking down a street sign and damaging the front lawn of a Kilburn Road residence on April 14.
  • Officers responded to the New Hyde Park railroad station for a gate malfunction caused by a work train in the area on April 14.
  • Officers responded to a report of a domestic incident at a Garden City home on April 15 where a 17-year-old man from South Carolina threatened his father with a handgun during an argument. Officers located and arrested the teen at a nearby home and recovered the handgun. He was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the father owned the handgun as well as another handgun, an assault rifle and several high capacity ammo clips without required licenses. The father, a 49-year-old man from South Carolina, was charged with criminal possession of an assault rifle, criminal possession of a loaded firearm and 11 counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
