Speeding Driver Had Loaded Handgun in Car: Police

BREAKING: Detectives say his license was suspended, but the real find was the gun in the glove box.

The Garden City Police Department arrested a man during a traffic stop Monday, and then say they found a loaded handgun in his car.

According to detectives, Garden City officers saw Edwin Armando Gomez, 23, of Wellington Street, Hempstead, driving a 2008 Nissan Maxima northbound on Clinton Road at a high rate of speed at 11:30 p.m. Officers conducted a vehicle stop on Stewart Avenue and, during the investigation, they say they discovered Gomez's license was suspended. Gomez was placed under arrest without incident.

After the arrest, officers say they recovered a loaded 9 mm handgun from the glove box.
