Two Truck Drivers Had Suspended Licenses: Garden City Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending May 14.

  • Two mountain bikes were reported stolen from a Meadow Street garage on May 8.
  • Firefighters and officers responded to a residence for a burning smell inside the house on May 8. Firefighters determined the cause to be a faulty dehumidifier.
  • A delivery van traveling east struck the Chestnut Street train overpass on May 8. The truck was damaged and the driver, a 35-year-old man from Queens, suffered a minor back injury. The driver was charged with disobeying bridge clearance signs.
  • During the investigation of a truck with an unsecured load on New Hyde Park Road on May 9, officers arrested the driver, a 43-year-old man from Islip Terrace, for aggravated unlicensed operation (six license suspensions) and unsecured load.
  • During the investigation of another truck with an unsecured load on New Hyde Park Road on May 9, officers arrested the driver, a 37-year-old man from Inwood, for aggravated unlicensed operation (license suspended due to a prior DWI arrest), unsecured load, leaking gas containers and defective trailer coupling device.
  • Officers responded to a report of a traffic light malfunction at the intersection of Nassau Boulevard and South Avenue on May 9.
  • A kitchen appliance inside a residence under construction was found damaged and two computer boards were found missing from inside the unit on May 10.
  • Upon investigation of a Brompton Road residential burglary, which occurred on April 21, Garden City detectives arrested a 28-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both from Holtsville, on May 10. They were charged with second-degree burglary.
  • Officers responded to 7th Street for a report of a suspicious package on the sidewalk on May 10. Upon investigation, the item was discovered to be an empty box and determined to be trash.
  • A basketball backboard and hoop were reported stolen from the property of a Willow Street residence on May 11.
  • Upon investigation of a domestic incident on 7th Street on May 12, officers arrested a 58-year-old man from Tennessee for aggravated DWI.
  • Officers investigated a road rage incident between two vehicles on New Hyde Park Road on May 13. Police say a man reportedly exited one of the cars and struck the other car with a bat, breaking the rear passenger window.
  • Officers investigated a report of a black SUV leaving the scene after colliding into another vehicle on Ring Road on May 14.
  • A Franklin Avenue business reported multiple forged checks were written against the company’s checking account on May 14.
