Water Tower Work May Affect Service: Garden City Village
Prep work for the water tower demolition may cause disruptions to your water, or brief discoloration, the village said.

The Village of Garden City is continuing prep work to replace the water tower off Old Country Road. As part of that, the village's water department will be performing tests over the next few days that could temporarily affect residents' water service.
The village says that the disruptions will be brief, and will be akin to when hydrant flushing occurs. The prep work is fluid, the village says, and can occur at any time during the day. Due to this, residents and businesses may experience temporary fluctuations in water pressure and/or temporary water discoloration during the course of the day. However, the water is safe to use.
The village says the disruptions should last for a week to 10 days. To avoid problems, the village recommends that residents draw water for cooking ahead of time, store bottles of water for drinking and make sure to check your water quality before doing laundry or using a dishwasher.

In addition, residents may also notice fire hydrants in their area open and flowing, the village said. This is part of the work being done, and it will have no effect on fire protection.
Residents with any questions can call the Garden City Water Department at 465-4020. Demolition of the actual tower is slated to begin in early February, after the village finishes replacing valves and completing other related work to allow for the village to rely on pressure from West Hempstead’s water system and provide access to the site. The new tower is expected to be completed by early spring 2020.
