Woman Dies In Car Crash: Garden City Police

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending April 10
- Officers investigated a report of a man stealing merchandise from CVS Pharmacy and fleeing the scene on foot on April 3.
- A vehicle was stopped by an Officer on Clinton Road on April 4 for multiple aggressive driving violations. Upon investigation, the driver, a 54-year-old man from Oceanside, was arrested for DWI and unsafe lane usage.
- A 24-year-old woman from Albany was driving a Gray 2006 Nissan south bound on Clinton Road at Poplar Street on April 4 when she hit the curb and crossed over into the northbound lane. She then struck a tree at the intersection of Clinton Road and Garden Street. As a result of the collision, the driver suffered multiple injuries, was transported to an area hospital and was later pronounced deceased by a staff physician. Firefighters assisted the police department at the scene.
- A coat was reported stolen from the NY Sports Club on April 5. In addition, keys inside the coat were used to open the victim’s car and remove a handbag from within.
- Officers assisted the fire department for a report of a residential carbon monoxide alarm activation on April 5. Upon investigation, firefighters determined the alarm apparently malfunctioned.
- As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Clinton Road on April 6, officers arrested a 27-year-old man from Huntington Station for driving while impaired by alcohol, felony aggravated unlicensed operation (license was suspended for prior DWI), circumventing a court ordered interlock device and excessive speed.
- Upon investigation of a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle at the Country Life Press train station on April 6, officers arrested a 46-year-old man from Garden City for leaving the scene of an accident.
- A Franklin Avenue bank reported a man entered the bank and cashed two forged checks totaling $1,900 on April 6.
- Officers investigated a report of someone intentionally damaging three washing machines inside the Cherry Valley Apartments on April 7.
- Officers and firefighters responded to Pine Street where a utility company accidentally struck a gas line on April 8. The area was safeguarded until National Grid responded and repaired the line.
- Officers assisted the fire and water departments with a water main break on Pine Street on April 8.
- Officers responded to a 7th Street store to investigate the theft of merchandise ($260 value) by an unknown woman on April 9.
- A truck traveling southbound struck the Cherry Valley overpass on April 9. The top of the truck was damaged. No injuries were reported. The driver, a 55-year-old man from Lake Grove, was charged with disobeying bridge clearance signs.
