Woman Sped Away From Officer During Traffic Stop: Garden City PD

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending May 8.

  • A truck traveling south struck the Nassau Boulevard train overpass on April 30. The driver, a 26-year-old man from the Bronx, was charged with disobeying bridge clearance signs. No injuries were reported.
  • A package delivered by a courier service was reported stolen from a porch of a Meadow Street residence on May 1.
  • A commercial vehicle inspection was conducted on Clinton Road on May 1. Twelve vehicles were inspected and five were placed out of service. Forty-seven tickets were issued for various traffic and safety violations including overweight and defective brake violations.
  • On May 2, officers investigated a report of a small gray SUV leaving the scene after backing into and damaging a vehicle parked on the Adelphi University campus.
  • Multiple household valuables were reported missing from a Hilton Avenue apartment under construction on May 2.
  • Officers responded to a traffic condition as a result of malfunctioning railroad gates at the Hilton Avenue crossing on May 2.
  • Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging a vehicle parked on Somerset Avenue on May 3.
  • Officers assisted firefighters who responded to a residence for a smoke condition on May 4. Upon investigation, it was determined the smoke was a result of a faulty water cooler.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on Clinton Road (56 MPH) on May 6. During the traffic stop, the driver, a 23-year-old woman from Hempstead, suddenly drove the vehicle from the scene, committing several traffic infractions. The vehicle came to a stop on Glen Cove Road after striking two vehicles. The woman was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation (two license suspensions), excessive speed, reckless driving, passing a red traffic light, resisting arrest, false personation, unlawful fleeing from a police officer, possession of marijuana and an outstanding Nassau County larceny warrant.
  • A 30-year-old woman from Binghamton was arrested at Lord & Taylor for the theft of assorted merchandise valued at $182 on May 6.
  • Firefighters removed a female who was stuck in an elevator inside a Hilton Avenue building on May 6.
  • A discarded pocketbook was found on the platform of the Merillon Avenue train station on May 7. Upon investigation, it was determined the pocketbook was stolen from a vehicle in New Hyde Park.
  • Officers assisted the fire department for a fire alarm activation inside a dorm building on the Adelphi University campus on May 7. Upon investigation, firefighters determined the alarm was caused by overcooked food.
