The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week from Feb. 20 through 26.

Officers responded to the Marine Base Guard Shack on Feb. 20 for a suspicious package received by mail. The area was safeguarded and upon investigation by the officers, along with Nassau County Police Department Bomb Squad and Emergency Service Units, the package was declared safe. The investigation is ongoing.

Officers assisted the Water Department with a large water main break on Clinch Avenue and Stewart Avenue on Feb. 20.

Unauthorized credit card accounts were opened using a resident’s identity without permission on Feb. 20.

Officers responded to a Poplar Street home on Feb. 21 where two people entered an unlocked vehicle, removed a garage door remote and opened the garage door. The two entered the garage and were looking into a vehicle in the garage when they were confronted by the homeowner. The two fled on foot westbound on Poplar Street. The subjects were described as males, 6 feet tall, wearing all black with hooded sweatshirts covering their head. A video of the men was obtained from a neighboring property.

A vehicle was reported stolen from the driveway of a Garden Street residence on Feb. 21.

As a result of a traffic stop investigation on Osborne Road on Feb. 21, officers charged a 29-year-old man from Brooklyn with aggravated unlicensed operation (suspended license), excessive speed and uninsured operation.

Officers investigated a report of a black SUV leaving the scene after being involved in an accident with another vehicle on 11th Street on Feb. 21.

A suspicious vehicle investigation on John Street on Feb. 22 resulted in the impound of a vehicle and the driver, a 28-year-old man from Westbury, being charged with switched license plates, unregistered vehicle and improper registration sticker.

On Feb. 23, officers arrested a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old boy, both from Hempstead, for entering a car in a Garden Street driveway and attempting to steal property. The two were charged with attempted larceny and trespass.

An officer saw a car traveling west on St. James Street South pass a red light at Washington Avenue, almost striking a vehicle traveling north, on Feb. 23. The car was stopped on Magnolia Street and upon investigation, the driver, a 57-year-old woman from Hempstead, was arrested for DWI and passing a red traffic signal.

Officers responded to Garden City Plaza on Feb. 24 where a vehicle traveling north on Ring Road in the southbound lanes collided with a vehicle traveling south; the northbound vehicle proceeded to mount a curb and strike three unoccupied parked cars. The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 32-year-old man from Holbrook, was transported to a local hospital for a leg injury. In addition, he was arrested for DWI and improper lane usage. The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 26-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, was transported to a local hospital for a hip injury.

Officers assisted firefighters who removed a person from a malfunctioning elevator on 7th Street on Feb. 24.

On Feb. 25, officers arrested a 59-year-old man from Garden City for taking a cell phone away from another family who was calling the police to report a domestic incident between the two of them. He was charged with criminal mischief.

Garden City detectives investigated a report from a Garden City business on Feb. 25 regarding four employees altering computer records to misrepresent the amount of money they received from customers for a financial gain of more than $11,000. Police arrested two 30-year-old women and a 35-year-old man, all from Levittown, and a 34-year-old woman from Queens and charged them all with falsifying business records and larceny.

Deep scratches were found on a vehicle parked in Parking Field 12 on Feb. 25.

Officers are investigating the illegal dumping of 60 used tires in Parking Field 6E on Feb. 25.

A 33-year-old woman from Flushing was arrested for the theft of $600 in merchandise from Lord & Taylor on Feb. 25.

Officers responded to the Nassau Boulevard crossing for a railroad gate malfunction on Feb. 26.
