Glen Cove Native to be First Woman Honored at City's Veterans Day Memorial Service

The memorial service kicks off at 11 a.m. at the Doughboy Memorial on Wednesday.

A U.S. Air Force Veteran from Glen Cove will be the first woman ever to be named Glen Cove’s 2015 Veterans Day Honoree at the City’s annual Veterans Day Memorial Service on Wednesday.

“Master Sergeant Noon is a born leader, she has served in the military for over 18 years and is the first female member of the Glen Cove VFW James Donohue Post 347,” Commander Joseph Lavery said.

The memorial service kicks off at 11 a.m. at the Doughboy Memorial, located on the corner of the Glen Cove Library, located at 4 Glen Cove Ave.

Noon, who was born in Glen Cove and now lives in Huntington, enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1998 and went on to graduate from the Avionic Mechanic Course at Fort Eustis, Virginia in 1999. From there, she went to the Air National Guard in 2002 and then attended the Security Forces Academy in Texas where she graduated in 2002. Noon’s assignments have included the Civil Engineering Squadron, Knowledge Operations Manager and a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. She is currently serves a First Sergeant, 106th OG in Westhampton Beach.

Noon’s contributions to the military have been recognized with many awards and commendations, including an Air Force Commendation Medal, a Meritorious Unit Award, an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters and an Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters. She is also the recipient of the Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the NATO Medal.
