Glen Cove Hospital Names New Co-Chair of Advisory Council

More than a decade ago, Barbara Hoover first got involved with ’s Advisory Council by volunteering her time and business skills to organize memorable fundraising events such as the Long Island Antiques Show and the Critical Care Cabaret.

Now, Ms. Hoover, a resident of Oyster Bay, has been named co-chair of the Advisory Council. In her new role, Ms. Hoover will be working closely with Beverly Banker, who led the volunteer Council for 12 years and remains an active member of the group.

The Council’s mission is to strengthen relationships between the hospital and the community and also to serve as a liaison with the North Shore-LIJ Health System.

Members of the Advisory Council represent a broad spectrum of the community, including houses of worship, local merchants, healthcare organizations, community groups, individuals, as well as hospital physicians and staff members. George Dunn, MD, senior vice president of medical affairs and chairman of the hospital’s Department of Family Practice also serves as the Council’s co-chair.

“I’m very proud of the nurses, doctors and staff at Glen Cove Hospital who are committed to delivering top-notch healthcare to the community,” said Ms. Hoover. “Many of the nurses and employees at Glen Cove have a long tenure of service and you can tell that they enjoy their jobs; the work environment tone is unique to the hospital and patients benefit from this.”

Most recently, Ms. Hoover was an associate director of development at the North Shore Land Alliance, an organization specializing in conservation and preserving open space on Long Island.

A graduate of St. John’s University, she spent her early career at Citicorp in human resources in Manhattan. After eight years in the corporate world, she and her husband, Jim, returned to Long Island to raise their three sons almost three decades ago.

Since then, Ms. Hoover has been involved with various nonprofit organizations including serving on the boards of the Green Vale School, and the Village of Mill Neck Planning Board.

A graphic designer, she is also a former president of the North Country Garden Club.

“I am excited about my new position,” said Ms. Hoover.  “I look forward to meeting new people at the hospital and getting more involved in the Glen Cove community.”
