Assemblyman Lavine Commends Justin's Toys in Glen Cove

While visiting the small business, Lavine bought a "very ferocious and protective" stuffed lion for his grandson.

Assemblyman Charles Lavine recently recognized a Glen Cove small business for bringing joy to children, especially during the holiday season.

Justin’s Toys specializes in finding age-appropriate toys that fit their customers’ budgets.

“Often times a customer will rush in and say: ‘I need something for an 8 year old boy or a 6 year old girl,’” Co-owner Kirsten Lee said in a press release.

Lavine, who visited the store on Nov. 24, said the holiday season is the perfect time to bring attention to a locally-owned shop.

Lavine owned his own small business for many years and understands that these establishments are what makes the Glen Cove community unique.

“There is something very special about the neighbor to neighbor attention shoppers receive,” he said.

Justin’s Toys, located at 114 Forest Ave., employs several full-time and seasonal workers. Robert Lee, fellow co-owner and husband of Kirsten Lee, said he never pictured himself quitting a corporate job to open a toy store, but when KB Toys on Forest Avenue closed, he took advantage of the opportunity.

Three years later, Justin’s Toys has become the go-to place to buy toys in Glen Cove. The store has already created several relationships with toy manufacturers worldwide.

“Because small businesses are critical to our economy, I am very pleased to focus attention on our friends and neighbors who are the foundations of our community,” Lavine said. “And on a very personal level, I got to buy a very ferocious and protective stuffed lion for my grandson!”
