Campaign Launched to Save Services at Glen Cove Hospital

Mayor urging residents to voice opposition.

Mayor Ralph Suozzi is urging residents to opposed the proposed changes to Glen Cove Hospital.

North Shore-LIJ announced Tuesday that it aims to phase out inpatient bed services while also expanding ambulatory surgery center, medical offices, outpatient cancer services, a community health and outreach center, and physical therapy and rehabilitation.

The changes are necessary, hospital officials said, noting that operations are “unsustainable.” The hospital intends to identify job opportunities within the North Shore-LIJ system for workers affected by the changes.

But Suozzi says he plans to meet with hospital officials to discuss alternative solutions for the community, and is encouraging residents to voice their opinion about the hospital’s future.

In a Facebook message, Suozzi said:

Please send you questions and concerns to:

Petitions:

I am establishing an electronic petition which should be available tomorrow. In the meantime, Mohan Jolly at The Chemist, will be setting up a petition at his pharmacy on Forest Avenue - across from the Middle School horseshoe.

In addition, the Glen Cove Senior Center is starting a petition, that will be collected and forwarded as well.

Please ask any questions, make statements, or list concerns. Please try to remain brief while still getting your point(s) across.

Finally, there is a lot of information flying around and while ultimately it may prove to be true or mostly true, I am awaiting a fact sheet from the NSLIJ COO Mark J. Solazzo for further distribution to the City Council members and the general public.

I remain hopeful that there are still flexibilities in this plan but I will not know what, if any, they are until I sit down with the NSLIJ leadership.

Ralph
