Delegation Of Democratic Representatives Call On Santos Expulsion Vote
The congressman was indicted last week on federal charges that include fraud and money laundering.

WASHINGTON, DC — Pressure is mounting for Speaker Kevin McCarthy and other members of the House to expel Rep. George Santos, who was indicted last week on federal fraud and money laundering charges in connection to his campaign, prosecutors said.
Several representatives from across the country spoke on Wednesday. Congressman Robert Garcia (California-D) said this resolution is to "put Republicans on the record."
As a privileged resolution, it must be taken up on the floor within two days, MSNBC reported.

It's a bill that Garcia introduced in February. New York representatives Ritchie Torres and Dan Goldman joined the Wednesday news conference, along with three other lawmakers. All six are Democrats.
The group Concerned Citizens of NY-03 wants to see some Republicans speak out about expelling the embattled congressman, in particular Rep. Anthony D'Esposito and Rep. Nick LaLota from Long Island.

"These Representatives have it in their power to force the expulsion vote onto the floor of the House, by letting McCarthy know that they will block efforts to send the Resolution back to the Ethics Committee," Jody Kass, with the Concerned Citizens of NY-03 said.
The expulsion threshold, though, is a high bar. A two-thirds majority is required to pass. With every Democrat voting in favor of it, nearly one-third of GOP members would need to approve it, MSNBC said.
McCarthy said following the indictment that he would prefer to wait to see if the House Ethics Committee finds wrongdoing.
