Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club YOM “March” to Their Own Beat

Two extraordinary young members, Abigail S. and Panagiotis G., have been named Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Month.

Nine-year-old Abigail S. is in the fourth grade and already has her sights on becoming a doctor when she grows up, in particular, a pediatrician. Her favorite subjects are science and social studies and she’s a big fan of the R. J. Palacio’s the Wonder Collection and books by Judy Blume. Abigail focuses a lot of her energy on school, art and reading, Abigail is also an all-around athlete who loves to play soccer, does gymnastics, is enrolled in the Club’s Dance Program and takes classes at Maryann’s Dance Studio. Abigail has been a member of the Club for four years, attending regularly during the school year as well as participating in the Summer Program. Her favorite Summer Program experience was miniature golfing at Bayville Adventure Park. “I’m so thankful for being able to come to the Club. I participate in a lot of activities and have a lot of fun here” said Abigail. “I have made a lot of friends and I am most thankful for all the people who care about me and respect me.”

Panagiotis has an adventurous spirit with a yen for exploring and inventing things that will make the world a better place. He is currently 13 years-old and in the seventh grade but he is looking forward to a future when he can become a globe trotter, learning about different cultures and mastering different languages and making the world a better place. He already has keen interest in linguistics, as well as social studies and the sciences. “I am very interested in social studies and history and learning about our past. To me this is more meaningful than many of the other subjects we learn in school today” said Panagiotis, who takes a very philosophical approach to life. “I’d like to see a more peaceful world, where everyone gets along and people accept each other,” he added. He is already trying to make the world a better place by being a good role model to his two younger brothers and to the younger members at the Club. He recently made a very positive impact on younger members when he took on a leadership role organizing a relay race for them. Panagiotis used humor to connect with the kids and make the event a fun and learning experience.

Congratulations to Abigail and Panagiotis.
