Glen Cove Ferry Service To Alleviate The LIRR 'Summer Of Hell'
The ferry service will run from July 10 to September 1.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be launching the Glen Cove ferry service in July to help Long Island Rail Road commuters better deal with the “summer of hell.”
The LIRR will launch two ferry routes from Glen Cove and Hunters Point in Long Island City. The ferry services will run from July 10 to September 1.
The Glen Cove ferry will transport commuters to 34th Street in Manhattan during three runs in the morning and three in the evening with a total capacity of 1,122 customers. The ferries will run from 6 to 10 a.m. and from 3 to 7 p.m.

The Hunters Point ferry will offer three runs in the morning and three in the evening with a total capacity of 1,200 customers. A shuttle bus will run between the Hunterspoint Avenue LIRR station and the ferry for the LIRR trains that will be newly rerouted to Hunterspoint Avenue.

The ferry service is part of a four-part plan that looks to aid Long Island Rail Road commuters this summer as Amtrak conducts construction work at Penn Station, MTA says. Read more on the plan here.
In September, the City postponed their ferry service schedule to not impede the accelerated construction at Garvies Point. The service was postponed for 12 months and looked to be running no later than early 2019, but will now be returning in July to accommodate the needs of the LIRR.
