Glen Cove Residents and Rallye Lexus Partner to Bring The First Tee(R) DRIVE to Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club

Dr. Andrew Menzin, along with his son Marcus Menzin have spearheaded Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club's First Tee® DRIVE program, offered at the

The First Tee® DRIVE is a set of 18 golf activity plans designed to provide a fun and engaging program teaching Club members the First Tee’s Nine Core Values – Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy, and Judgment. The nine core values support and promote the Club’s character and leadership building initiatives as well as health and fitness efforts.

“Marcus and I are thrilled to bring this program to the Club, and to the kids who may not otherwise have this opportunity. We wanted to give back to our community and the First Tee® offered us an ideal way to do something we loved while benefitting members of the Club. Golf is a great sport and more than learning how to swing a club, the kids are also learning the First Tee® Code of Conduct - respecting themselves, respecting others and respecting the environment around them. These are the important lessons that the kids will take with them throughout their lives. Marcus and I are just thankful for the chance to get this e effort going,” said Dr. Menzin, gynecologic oncologist at the North Shore-LIJ Health System, professor at Hofstra University, local resident and avid golfer. Marcus Menzin is a Junior at Friends Academy.

Rallye Lexus, located in Glen Cove, a major sponsor of the program, has been very active in the local community since opening their doors in 1989. When brought the opportunity to support the First Tee® DRIVE Program, Rallye Lexus GM and Glen Cove native John Tetta had no hesitation in supporting the efforts.

Growing up in Glen Cove, Mr. Tetta has seen the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club grow into the organization it is today. As a kid, Mr. Tetta spent time at the Club with friends who were members and, later on in life, his children were involved in the Boys & Girls Club movement. “I have witnessed the positive impact the Club has made on so many kids in our community and Rallye and I are delighted to be supporting this valuable cause. Sports and sportsmanship are great teaching tools for kids, and especially important in today’s youth culture where there are so many distractions and negative influences,” said Mr. Tetta.

“We are truly grateful to Dr. Menzin, Marcus Menzin, John Tetta and the entire Rallye team, and to Glen Cove Golf Course, for making our First Tee® a reality. We have been working on taking this program from the initial stage of concept and discussion into a fully funded and staffed program for eight months. This is truly a community driven effort with Dr. Menzin and Marcus bringing the idea to us, Mr. Tetta and Rallye supporting the idea, and Glen Cove Golf Course for providing the environment to make this happen. This is a great opportunity for our kids. They are learning a new sport while gaining constructive and indispensable experiences from the First Tee® program and its nine core values,” said Franca Trunzo, GCBGC Director of Operations.
