Glen Cove Educator Awarded the 'Oscar' of Teaching

A Glen Cove High School teacher was named a recipient of the prestigious Milken Educator Award, which is considered the “Oscar” of teaching.

Lauren Jensen, an English language arts teacher and the school district’s writing coach, was presented a check for $25,000 during a surprise school assembly Wednesday morning.

The Milken Educator Awards program awards top educators around the country with $25,000 unrestricted awards for inspiring excellence in education.

Jensen was recognized for encouraging her students to think and write effectively.

“Lauren is one of the best and the brightest in the teaching profession and we are so proud that her classroom is in the Glen Cove School District,” Mayor Reggie Spinello said on Facebook.
