Glen Cove Welcomes Students Back for Their First Day of School

Students smiles shine on an opening day more similar to pre-pandemic times

GLEN COVE, NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 2022) — The Glen Cove City School District recently opened its doors to over 3,100 students across its six schools for the start of the 2022-2023 school year. Students displayed toothy grins and beaming smiles as they readied for a first day of classes, which will more closely resemble pre-pandemic life due to the lifting of mask and other previous COVID-19 requirements.

“Our staff did an amazing job at ensuring a productive first day of school and generating excitement among new and returning students for another successful year,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maria Rianna. “We are enthusiastic about seeing students’ smiles and facial expressions of wonderment and discovery as we move forward in a manner more akin to pre-pandemic years.”

Administration and staff greeted students with high-fives, hugs and smiles as they got off their buses and reunited with peers. Staff at Glen Cove High School rolled out the red carpet for students to kick off their year and students at GCHS, Finley Middle School, and Deasy, Gribbin, Landing and Connolly elementary schools were greeted by large “welcome back” signs.
