Glen Covers to Compete in Empire State Games
Two residents slated to represent Long Island at sports competition in Buffalo starting on Wednesday.

Glen Cove residents Ralph Alois and Jan Micko are slated to represent Long Island during this year's Empire State Games finals in Buffalo from July 21-25.
Alois will compete in the Masters Mens bowling game, a division where athletes battle against one another in age brackets determined by the individual sports for gold, silver and bronze medals. Micko is scheduled to play in the Open Mens cycling race. This division comprises competitors who are 18 and older as of Aug. 31 of the year of the games.
The Empire State Games is the largest competition of its kind in the nation, according to its website. The competition is a multi-sport event for amateur athletes who live in New York and are patterned after the Olympics. Following Regional Trials in each of the six regions of the state, competition officials said, about 6,000 winners will participate in the finals.
