iPad Note Taking is the Way of the Future for Glen Cove Sixth Graders

A few years ago, all students had was a pen and paper to take notes.

Finley Middle School sixth-graders kicked off the new school year with iPads thanks to a district initiative aimed at preparing students for college and career readiness.

The iPad initiative began last year, with teachers in the district receiving iPads and Apple televisions to get them familiarized with the technology. Professional development was also provided and included the educators learning about Google Apps for Education. Representatives from Model Schools continue to work with students and teachers three times a week to assist with the transition.

According to Principal Nelson Iocolano, students are currently getting acclimated to the technology, and will take notes and complete assignments using the iPads throughout the first quarter and going forward.

“For students of this generation Google is a verb,” Finley Middle School Principal Nelson Iocolano said. “To leave the power of the Internet at the school door is a mistake. We want the students to be able to integrate all things digital into every day learning.”
