Laria: Educating Students is a Partnership

Dear Residents, Parents and Colleagues: 

As the 2010–11 school year opens, we welcome all Glen Cove students and staff to a new year of learning and growth. The Board of Education and I invite you, as parents, guardians, staff and community members to join us in the collaborative efforts needed to achieve our goal of improving the future of ALL our children through teaching and learning. We believe that "Together for Children, We Can!" 

We can talk about our vision of excellence if, and only if, we are able to demonstrate that Glen Cove's children have the wholehearted support and encouragement of all those involved in their education. The achievement of excellence requires commitment, hard work, sacrifice, team effort, a positive attitude, and the will to succeed.

As the district's Interim Superintendent of Schools, I will work with you to provide programs and services which reflect our hopes and educational aspirations. Together, we must provide opportunities for all children to develop their potential to the fullest and to become all they are capable of becoming in an educational environment that is managed efficiently and economically.  

I look forward to joining you in the challenge that always accompanies the education of children. But, I must emphasize that the challenge is not to one person alone. Educating our children is a partnership shared by everyone who lives or works in the Glen Cove School District. 

Therefore, I urge you to renew your commitment to quality public education in Glen Cove, to have faith in each other as we work together to find better ways, and to have patience with each other as our school district works towards excellence. 

Without question, the quality of education in Glen Cove's schools impacts the quality of life for all of us. Education of value and worth begins with an informed public. The Board of Education joins me in encouraging residents and parents to visit the schools, to be involved in the educational process, and to participate actively in the governance of your public schools. 

Education is an investment in the future of our children, the future of the Glen Cove community and the future of our great country. Let us work together so that we and our children may reap the dividends of an investment that has incredible potential for us all. "Together for Children, We Can!"
