Letter to the Editor: It's Time for a Change
The 13th Assembly District and state needs leadership and fiscal discipline now.

Editor's Note: The state's 13th Assembly District encompasses Glen Cove, Syosset, Bayville and Oyster Bay, among other areas.
Being a fiscal conservative is apparently worthy of discredit, as evidenced by recent comments incumbent Assemblyman Charles Lavine made about his opponent, the fiscally conservative Republican candidate, Robert Germino, in a recent published report.
Mr. Lavine made some unfortunate, not fair and balanced, allegations concerning his opponent's supporters. I assume the intent of his incendiary comments was to distract from the real issue of out-of-control-spending that plagues the state.

Mr. Lavine has directly contributed to this explosive and destructive spending by co-sponsoring the onerous and poorly written Metropolitan Transportation Authority tax, which was forced onto the public by powerful special interests.
It's the spending that has to be controlled and Mr. Lavine is not the right person to control spending. However, the fiscally conservative and Iraq War veteran Robert Germino is. Mr. Germino's rise from enlisted man to captain in the United States Marine Corps has demonstrated his leadership abilities, and it is leadership combined with fiscal discipline that the 13th Assembly District and state need now.
