Letter to the Editor: Thank You Glen Cove

To the Editor:

Saturday marked the fifth anniversary of our loving Andreas' untimely death. Many things have been done in his memory including the annual Andreas Christopoulos 5K Run/Walk, where the proceeds provide scholarships to graduating Glen Cove High School seniors.

My family and I would like to thank all of the sponsors who made it possible for us to award two scholarships and to sustain the scholarship fund. We also appreciate being granted permission by Mayor Ralph Suozzi and the City Council to hold the run and we acknowledge the patience of our neighbors during the closing of the streets along the course of the run.

We would also like to extend our deepest thanks to the Nicola Brasiello and Rick Testa families. Each year, the Brasiello family coordinates every aspect of the run and all the sponsorships. It is an enormous, sometimes hectic undertaking, to say the least.

A very special gift was made this year by Rick and Lori Testa in tribute to Andreas. It's a beautiful tree at the entrance of the high school that we are sure will grow tall and strong and endure for many generations. Our family is so proud to have this tree at the high school, reaching for the sky, much like our children reach for the sky as they continue in their education and careers.

We thank you all for your unconditional love and support. Once again, all of you have shown by example that Glen Cove is a special place, especially because of the people who live here.
