SAFE Glen Cove Coalition: Problem Gambling

NYS OASAS has a launched a a digital, radio, and social media campaign designed to increase awareness of the risks of problem gambling.

The New York State Office of Addiction Services And Supports (NYS OASAS) has launched a new campaign known as “Stick to the Game Plan.” Running from February 1 to April 1, this campaign seeks to bring awareness to the problem of gambling along with prevention efforts and tactics to help people in need of problem gambling services.

“Stick to the Game Plan” is a digital, radio, and social media campaign designed to increase awareness of the risks problem gambling and provide tips on how to prevent gambling. The campaign will also highlight responsible gaming tips including setting limits on the amount of time and money one plan to spend gambling, limiting the use of alcohol and other substances while gaming, and reminding the public that gambling is not for those under 21 years old.

It is essential to remind people about the importance of gambling responsibly, and the steps they can take to help avoid the risk of developing gambling addiction. It is also equally important for parents to talk with their children about gambling. This new campaign will give people the tools they need to help prevent problem gambling, as well as direct them on where to find help if they need it.

As more technology and advancements with easier access to gaming devises that use a gambling format are become more available, there is a high demand to educate the community on this growing issue. For some individuals it is a harmless recreational activity or just a fun night out or playing with friends, but for others it can lead to financial destruction for the individual and their family.

The information and help from the campaign will be available through the OASAS website, with videos and NYS HOPEline support, as well as contacts to NYS Problem Gambling Resource Centers.
