These workshops are part of a 3-session series, “Impressions: Carved & Pressed,” focused on printmaking using various mediums with artist Margrethe Aanestad. The class may be experienced individually or as part of a progression, with 3-session bundles available. All materials are provided. No prior experience is required. (18+)
Nov 5 – An evening of linocut printmaking in this workshop. Linocut is a relief printmaking technique using linoleum blocks, which are carved with gouges, inked with a brayer, and pressed onto paper, creating a mirror image of your carving that flips text and orientation. In this class, we’ll explore the technique, using any direction to create our own artworks.
Nov 12 – An evening of botanical relief printing. This class will explore the creative process of coating plant parts in ink and pressing them onto paper or fabric, which results in a direct, mirrored and highly detailed impression of the leaf’s organic veins and edges. After learning about the technique, we’ll experiment and create our own artworks.
Nov 19 – An evening of potato printing! Potato printing is a fun, easy craft that involves carving a simple shape into the flat surface of a freshly cut potato, pressing the homemade stamp into paint and then creating repeated patterns on paper or fabric. After learning about the technique, we’ll experiment and create our own artworks.
