Murray Hill D'Agostino Supermarket To Reopen

The D'Agostino grocery store at East 35th Street and Third Avenue will reopen this year under new management.

MURRAY HILL, NY — New York's "original grocer" is getting a second chance to supply the Murray Hill neighborhood.

The D'Agostino supermarket at East 35th Street and Third Avenue will reopen this year under new management after it closed its doors last year. John Catsimatidis, titan of the competing Gristedes grocery store chain, said his company Red Apple Group will reopen the location.

The news was first reported by DNA Info on Wednesday and was confirmed to Patch by a Red Apple Group spokesman.

The spokesman told Patch he expected the store, located at 528 Third Ave., would reopen in 30 to 60 days. He added that that store will be "funded" by the Red Apple Group, but managed by D'Agostino.

“We know people liked that location, so we decided to bring it back under the D’Agostino brand,” Catsimatidis told DNA Info.

The D'Agostino supermarket chain, once a New York institution, has had to shutter shops in recent years thanks to abundant competitors. D’Agostino representatives did not immediately respond to a message from Patch seeking additional information. We'll update this post if we hear back.
