Reconstruction of Pershing Square West to Cause Traffic Delays in Midtown

Parking may be restricted in work areas, and lane closures and lane shifting may be required.​

MIDTOWN, NY — Reconstruction of Pershing Square West will go until Dec. 23 this week, NYC Department of Design and Construction said. This will affect various Midtown streets until Friday morning.

Main highlights of the project include roadway reconstruction, installing new trunk and planting trees at Pershing Square West and construction of a pedestrian plaza at Park Avenue West from East 41st Street to East 42nd Street.

Construction Schedule, all operations will be completed as night work from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Dec. 18-23:

- Installation of 36-inch trunk water main at East 42nd St. between Vanderbilt Avenue & Lexington Avenue.

- 12-inch water main replacement at East 42nd St. between Park Avenue & Vanderbilt Avenue.

- Water Service Interruption at East 42nd St. between Park Avenue & Madison Avenue (north side)

- Installation of 36-inch trunk water main at Park Avenue West between East 42nd St. and East 41st St.

- Utility relocation at Park Avenue West between East 40th St. and East 39th St.

- Utility Relocation at East 40th St. between Park Avenue and Madison Avenue

- Utility Relocation at East 41st St. between Park Avenue and Madison Avenue


Parking may be restricted in work areas, and lane closures and lane shifting may be required. Parking signs will be distributed and posted 72 hours prior to the temporary elimination of street parking.

Water shut-off notifications will be distributed and posted to all affected locations to either confirm or cancel the scheduled water shut offs within 72 hours.
