The vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene, police said.

MIDTOWN, NY — A woman is in critical condition after she was hit by a black SUV while she attempted to cross East 38th street late Sunday morning, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

The SUV was going southbound in the Queens Midtown tunnel. The vehicle fled the scene and no arrests have been made. Police said the person driving the SUV did not stop and fled eastbound on East 37 Street against the flow of traffic before the vehicle turned northbound onto First Avenue.

The victim, a 60-year-old woman, suffered a serious left leg injury as well as trauma to her body. She was removed to an area hospital in critical but stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and police are seeking the public's help in identifying the car described as a late-model dark-colored Toyota Sienna van with yellow New York State license plates.

Police released new video late Sunday of the vehicle they are searching for, which showed the driver get out of the car and move traffic cones out of his way before getting back in the car and driving away.
