5 Great Neck Students Selected as National Merit $2.5K Scholarship Winners

Three students from Great Neck North and two students from Great Neck South were chosen out of more than 15,000 finalists.

Three students from Great Neck North and two students from Great Neck South have been named National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation made the announcement on Wednesday.

The students were selected out of more than 15,000 finalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program based on their academic accomplishments.

Great Neck North High School scholarship winners include:

  • Matthew Wigler
  • Jessy Lin
  • Daniel Hanover

Wigler is undecided on his future career field, but Lin and Hanover expect to enter the field of entrepreneurship.

Great Neck South High School scholarship winners include:

  • Jay Zussman
  • Hamsavardhaan Sivadhanu Pillai

Zussman’s probable career field is biomedicine and Pillai expects to go into the field of economics.

These students and about 7,600 finalists will be given the title of “Merit Scholar.” NMSC plans to award nearly $34 million in college scholarships by the end of the 2015 program.

All scholars may use their $2,500 award at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
