Gold Coast International Film Festival closing night film THE SOUNDMAN is a moving love story about passion, imagination, and the pursuit of humanity during dark times.
As Europe teeters on the brink of Nazi occupation in May 1940, Brussels trembles under the shadow of war. In the iconic Flagey building, the beating heart of the country's national radio, two lives collide. Elza, a young actress making her radio drama debut, meets Berre, a gifted soundman with a magical ear. She’s captivated by the power of storytelling; he finds refuge in the world of sound. Their chance encounter sparks a love daring enough to bloom amid looming bombs, air raids and creeping fear.
THE SOUNDMAN is a superbly acted, thrilling tale of passion, creativity and the struggle to hold onto humanity when the world is collapsing around you. Elza and Berre's voices rise above the rumble of approaching war—an echo of hope in a world about to lose its innocence.
