GREAT NECK, NY — Great Neck peninsula residents have been without a full-service supermarket since Best Market in The Gardens shopping center closed earlier this year, but that may be changing soon, a Great Neck nonprofit business advocacy group reported.

Kimco Realty purchased The Gardens, 20 Great Neck Rd., in November, part of an eight-property deal with Kabro Associates.

A representative from Kimco Realty told Janet Esagoff of Destination Great Neck that there is major interest in the Best Market space, she shared with Patch.

Esagoff reported that there are 12 bidders for the store and that an announcement is coming within the next three months.

Trader Joe's is an unlikely tenant, she said, because the space is too large with 40,000 square feet.

Esagoff, with Destination Great Neck, has been advocating for new business on the Great Neck peninsula.

"Overwhelmingly, people, and Great Neck want a full-service supermarket," she told Patch.

"The best people live, love and play here. Let’s keep on making our town better and better. One day: the hometown we all deserve."
