Orchestral composers work with a wide palette of musical colors. In this lecture-demonstration, members of the Northport Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Richard Hyman, will demonstrate the instruments that create this palette and will offer insight into how composers use instrumentation, rhythms, melodies, and other musical techniques to convey their intentions. We will examine selected excerpts of Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 2 and then will perform the entire work. Free admission, no tickets required.
