Johnny Mercer: Lyricist to the Stars

Thursday, 05-14-2015, 2:30PM - 4:00PM. From the 1930s to the 1960s, Johnny Mercer served as an occasional composer and all-time lyricist involving himself in the creation of more than 1,500 songs. A career that began in New York as a lyricist for the Paul Whiteman Orchestra, Mercer eventually moved to the West coast and worked with composers such as Richard Whiting, Harry Warren, Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern, Henry Mancini, and others. This lecture will feature some of his best songs, such as Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home, Autumn Leaves, That Old Black Magic, Moon River and his most well known song, Hooray for Hollywood.
