Melville Lions Lead Book Donation

Town council members stop by St. Johns camp to thank volunteers for pledge.

The Melville Lions Club gave campers at St. John's a new treat: "Worms for Lunch." Don't worry, it's only a book.

The Lions chapter donated $750 to the Town-run camp in Huntington Station to be used to purchase several new books for the campers.

Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone, Councilwomen Susan Berland and Glenda Jackson visited the camp recently to thank the Melville Lions’ Club their donation, which will be given to the campers as they complete the six-week program.

The money was used to purchase the books “One Brown Bunny,” “Dewey,” “SkippyJon Jones” and “Worms for Lunch.” Each camper will receive two books, based on their age (which range from four to six).

The camp program’s activities included daily reading time, and the Town and the club chapter hope that the books will encourage them to read at home and build on the reading skills developed at the camp.
