2 Teens Indicted For Shooting 7-Year-Old Girl In Harlem

The child was shot in the stomach, the district attorney said.

HARLEM, NY — Two teenagers were charged on Monday for shooting a 7-year-old girl in Harlem in November, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.

According to court records, True Womack, 17, and Daniel Idowu, 19, are accused of spraying bullets into a crowded sidewalk at the intersection of West 145th Street and Bradhurst Avenue on Nov. 11 at 2:52 p.m., one of which hit a 7-year-old pedestrian in the stomach.

Womack and Idowu fled the scene on foot through Jackie Robinson Park, where they were both arrested shortly after, and two guns were later recovered, the district attorney said.

The child was hospitalized with injuries to her stomach, liver, and colon that required surgery, the district attorney said.

"Thankfully, the child lived and brave police officers were able to act quickly to apprehend these defendants and prevent them from causing further harm," Bragg said. "Children are among our most vulnerable New Yorkers and deserve to be safe from the very real, oftentimes deadly, consequences of gun violence."

The two defendants were charged in separate New York State Supreme Court indictments with attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

The shooting was gang-related, according to ABC 7, which reported that the shooters were "trying to take out a rival but missed," striking the girl instead.
