Franz Hackl — Austrian-born trumpeter, composer, brass instrument maker, and Harlem resident since 2002 — brings his genre-defying IDO Quartet to the Harlem Jazz Series on June 12, 2025. A graduate of the Vienna Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with trumpet legend Lew Soloff, Hackl has toured the world's greatest festival stages and jazz clubs for over twenty years. His IDO Quartet (IDO: "dialect for everybody") fuses Tyrolean folk music with jazz improvisation into something genuinely and joyfully new. He is also a featured performer in Craig Harris and The Harlem Nightsongs. Don't miss this rare and extraordinary musical voice at the Harlem Jazz Series.

Blue has spent decades weaving together the musical threads of the African diaspora—blending hard bop sophistication with Caribbean rhythms, calypso grooves, and pan-African melodies. With over 85 recordings to his name and mentorship from jazz giants like Jimmy Heath, Frank Foster, and Billy Taylor, Blue's artistry transcends borders and generations.
His three-year collaboration with South African piano master Abdullah Ibrahim deepened his commitment to pan-African musical expression, a vision that continues to define his work today. Whether he's delivering hard-driving bebop lines on saxophone, exploring lyrical passages on flute, or incorporating the kalimba into his sonic palette, T.K. Blue creates music that honors the past while speaking powerfully to the present. “FIVE SESSIONS…A War in Therapy”–, a gripping new play by the playwright&nbsp; (JS/MSW) Jaime Estades. Set in present-day New York City, this intense psychological drama confronts audiences with urgent questions about systemic injustice, and the limits of institutional care.
Over the course of five charged therapy sessions, the audience is drawn into a confined space where two individuals collide: a recent graduate therapist with a privilege background–trained with clinical tools and good intentions but non-experiential, and a Latino building superintendent, labor organizer, and a man on the edge, shaped by grief, exploitation, and systemic neglect. “FIVE SESSIONS…A War in Therapy”—it is a theatrical confrontation.
