Dates To Know In Harlem This Week

Here's a round-up of meetings and events in the neighborhood for Jan. 17 through Jan. 23.

HARLEM, NY — Most meetings and events may be virtual these days, but there's still plenty going on in Harlem.

Patch has compiled a list of events for neighbors to mark on their calendars. From community meetings to family events, here are the dates to know for the week of Jan. 17.

Sunday, Jan. 17

The last day to view an exhibition and a special artwork at El Museo del Barrio.

The exhibition is Taller Boricua: A Political Printshop in New York, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the founding of Taller Boricua/The Puerto Rican Workshop, a studio that formerly operated in East Harlem.

It's also the last chance to view "The Memorial...", a large-scale assemblage by the artist Raphael Montañez Ortiz, inspired by the genocide of indigenous peoples during the European invasion of the Americas, and also by the impact of COVID-19 on Latinx and BIPOC communities in the U.S.

Monday, Jan. 18

Community Board 10 (Central Harlem) Health & Human Services Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. Register for the Zoom conference here.

The East Harlem Village Network, sponsored by Public Health Solutions, is hosting a virtual, three-part series: "The Intersections of Anti-Blackness, Xenophobia, and Health Outcomes in East Harlem" from 4-6 p.m. on Jan. 18, Jan. 25 and Feb. 1. To register, email dbrown@healthsolutions.org.

Tuesday, Jan. 19

The Harlem Wellness Center is hosting a Racial Healing Hub from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the northwest corner of Marcus Garvey Park.

Saturday, Jan. 23

Deadline to submit a virtual audition to the Dance Theatre of Harlem's 2021-22 season. The auditions are virtual and over three rounds. Round one is a five-minute video reel that should be emailed to rehearsaldirector@dancetheatreofharlem.org. To learn more, visit the DTH website.

Later dates/ongoing

Submissions for "Consequences," a writers' development and digital programming series for BIPOC creatives, opened on Jan. 6 with a deadline of Feb. 8. The series is co-produced by Harlem9, Harlem Stage, and The Lucille Lortel Theatre — read more and learn how to apply here.
