East Harlem Fire: 9 Injured In Blaze At Public Housing Building
Nine people were injured, one critically, when a fire broke out in a Johnson Houses building in East Harlem.

EAST HARLEM, NY — Nine people were injured early Friday morning after a fire broke out on the top floor of a public housing building in East Harlem.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 175 E. 112th St, on the corner of Third Avenue, shortly after 3:15 p.m. to battle a blaze on the top floor of the six-story apartment building, an FDNY spokesman said. The fire was brought under control by 4 a.m. and several people were rescued from the building as firefighters operated on scene, the spokesman said.
Seven of the nine people injured were civilians and two were firefighters, an FDNY spokesman said. The firefighters and five civilians suffered minor injuries, one civilian suffered serious life-threatening injuries and one civilian suffered critical injuries, an FDNY spokesman said.

The six-story building that caught fire Friday is part of the New York City Housing Authority's James Weldon Johnson Houses.
City fire marshals will investigate the cause of the fire.
