NYPD Moves Cars Blocking Harlem Bus Stop After Pushback

The NYPD moved a fleet of cars this week that had long blocked a Harlem bus stop, after residents complained and the mayor weighed in.

For at least two years, residents have pointed out NYPD vehicles that appeared to be parked illegally in the middle of the M10 bus stop at 147th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, which is across the street from the NYPD's Service Area 6 building.

HARLEM, NY — The NYPD has moved a fleet of cars that had long blocked a Harlem bus stop, after drawing complaints from residents and prompting the mayor to weigh in after multiple news outlets reported on it.

For at least two years, residents have pointed out NYPD vehicles that appeared to be parked illegally in the middle of the M10 bus stop at 147th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, which is across the street from the NYPD's Service Area 6 building.

The obstruction forced residents to wade into the middle of the street to flag buses down, according to Streetsblog, which reported on the issue again last week.

Mayor Bill de Blasio told CBS last week that he would discuss the issue with the NYPD and the MTA, suggesting that adjustments would be made to keep the bus stop safe. By Tuesday, the cars had been removed, replaced by metal barricades, Streetsblog reported.

The NYPD did not respond to Patch's request for comment.
