Woman Walking In East Harlem Raped By Stranger: Police

A woman reported she was raped while walking near East 116th Street and Second Avenue early Monday morning.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A woman walking in East Harlem was raped in the street by a stranger, an NYPD spokeswoman told Patch.

The 39-year-old victim was walking near East 116th Street and Second Avenue around 1:40 a.m. Monday when an unknown man approached her from behind, police told Patch. The man forced the victim to the ground and forcibly raped her, police said.

The woman went to the hospital Wednesday for treatment, which is when the rape was reported to the police, and NYPD spokeswoman told Patch.

The attacker is described as a man standing around 6-feet-tall with a short afro, police told Patch.

The NYPD Special Victims Unit is investigating the case, and no arrests have been made, police said.
