Handful of Harrison Seniors Happy to Miss Prom

For the seniors on the Harrison baseball team a difficult decision has arisen, to go to prom or play in the section championship game.

On Wednesday night the Harrison Huskies beat Pearl River 7 - 0 for the right to play at Dutchess Stadium on Thursday night for the section championship.

The only problem with the win is that Harrison High School's senior prom is also Thursday night.

Of the nineteen players on the team Harrison has seven seniors who were all planning to go to the prom. Along with the seniors, some of the team's underclassmen like Peter Viscogliosi also were invited to the senior prom.

"Our first priority is to win the section final game," said Viscogliosi. "Then we will worry about prom."

It seems like most of the student athletes are hoping to make it to the prom, but they are all ecstatic about the opportunity to play in the section championship game. Besides prom and the game, Harrison's probable starting pitcher Zach Eklund will also be celebrating his 18th birthday on Thursday.

"It's my birthday and I would rather pitch in a sectional game any day of the week than go to prom," Eklund said. "I'm definitely going to try and make it to prom but if not there is always the after prom."

While part of the prom experience is the ride in a limonene, several of the baseball players have already developed contingency plans because they don't want to miss out on the entire night.

"I would like to go to prom," said Harrison catcher Dominick Mustacato. "My parents are going to bring my stuff to the game and drive me straight to the prom, best case scenario I get there by nine."

Dominick Mustacato's twin brother Ryan has a similar plan.

"My date is going to go without me to prom," said Ryan. "Hopefully I can make it back in time for the last hour."

Even though rain isn't in the forecast one would think that the Husky seniors would hope for a downpour so that the game would be postponed to later in the week and the boys could enjoy their prom. However, that is not the case.

"We definitely don't want rain," said Harrison captain Mike DeLacy. "The whole team is really excited for this game and we are all playing well right now. We don't want anything to stop our momentum."

The Harrison team has been on fire lately, especially offensively, so far in the playoffs they have outscored their opponents 28 - 7 in the three games. Thursday night the Huskies will face off against Lakeland in the section championship.

The seniors on the team will certainly be hoping for a win, and a quick one.
