The Harrison Performing Arts Department is proud to announce their collaboration with the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI) on Wednesday, October 29th, 2014 at 7pm in the Harrison Performing Arts Center. All members of Harrison High School’s band, orchestra, chorus and dance programs will be performing alongside this internationally renowned, award-winning 120 piece Youth orchestra from Ireland. The CBOI will be performing the next evening at New York City’s Carnegie Hall on Thursday, October 30th at 7:30pm.
“The Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland is an internationally recognized ensemble that tours the United States every four years and we are delighted to host them in Harrison during their 2014 visit,” said Director of Fine and Performing Arts Lynn Fusco. “The mission of the CBOI aligns beautifully with our work here in Harrison, which is to celebrate diversity and create unity through the performing arts. This is a once in a lifetime cultural and artistic experience for our high school students, and we are extremely proud to be able to provide them with the opportunity to perform alongside the CBOI.”

Established in 1995, the CBOI was created as a peace initiative, celebrating diversity while promoting peace and tolerance among citizens. The CBOI is lead by some of Ireland’s top professional performers such as Gearoid Grand who serves as the group’s conductor. While not considered a “classical orchestra”, the group’s music highlights the pop, folk and traditional cultures of both Northern and Southern Ireland by including unique instruments such as the Lambeg Drums, Uilleann and Highland Pipes.
Tickets for the event will be $10 and can be purchased at the door. Come and celebrate this beautiful night of harmony and watch Harrison’s students perform as part of a global community.
