Welcome to the Next Chapter of Your Life: Manhattanville College

Incoming freshmen settle in at Manhattanville

There are long lines of residents running from the Spellman Lounge to the outside of the building. There are cars parked in an organized chaos in the parking lot and on curbs. There are some parents wiping tears from their eyes, and others are exuding joy – but more importantly, there is a sea of fresh faces who are here for the commencement of a journey.

The Class of 2019 is composed of domestic students ranging from Connecticut to Florida to California, and international students ranging from Australia to Spain to Vietnam; most states and almost every continent is represented. Despite the geographical differences between them, they all experience a range of emotions: joy, curiosity, and nervousness.

Many students are eager to start college, because it allows them to reinvent themselves or to flourish into the people that they aspire to be; college gives students a blank canvas and a paintbrush. “I’m excited for a new start and a new experience,” Sophia Chapelone ’19 from Southern California states.

With a large percentage of the student body residing on campus, our community takes pride in creating a safe, welcoming, and interactive environment for our students. “The moment I stepped into Mville, I knew I was at home,” Maricruz Herrera ’19 from Illinois states.

College can also evoke emotions and challenges that take time to adjust to, “I was very anxious, because moving from Washington State to New York is big move!” Terrisa Simentao ’19 says.

As the students settle in, they are socializing and shedding layers of their cocoons – preparing for the flight into their destiny. Some are ready to rumble and others are pondering the possibilities of what the next four years at Manhattanville will offer them – but more importantly, they are all intertwined in a network of success, diversity, and life-long relationships.
