Bretton Woods’ Mentoring Program Provides Supportive Social/Emotional Assistance

Hauppauge’s Bretton Woods Elementary School recently held its annual Mentoring Program board games day. The School’s Mentoring Program pairs students in grades K-5 with staff members who provide supportive social/emotional assistance throughout the school year.

Mentors volunteer their personal time to participate with the students in monthly school wide events that are held before or after school, such as: an ice cream social, a bagel breakfast, a pancake breakfast, a community service project, a bowling trip, a board games day and a McDonald’s breakfast. ”Mentors are teaching assistants, classroom teachers, support staff, clerical staff and administrators,” stated Bretton Woods’ Guidance Counselor Toby Poveromo. “The Mentoring Program allows students to develop a positive relationship with adults in the School.”
