County to Treat Islip Town Salt Marshes With Pesticides
Helicopters will be flying over the local marshes applying liquid pesticides to control mosquito larvae.
The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control will be treating several salt marshes across Long Island by helicopter on Tuesday to control mosquito larvae.
The treatment will take place from 5 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The helicopters will be flying at a low altitude, dropping liquid pesticides: Vectobac 12AS (Bti) and Altosid liquid (methoprene).

No precautions are recommended to prepare for this spraying.
Human exposure from this operation is unlikely and the products involved have no significant human toxicity, according to a press release from Suffolk County.

This will be the first aerial treatment this season.
In case of inclement weather, the treatment will be rescheduled.
In the Town of Islip, the application will take place at the following locations:
- Heckscher State Park
- Gardiner Park
- Seatuck National Wildlife Refuge
