Scarsdale Man Killed In Fiery Brooklyn Bridge Pile-Up, Cops Say

Kristopher​ Hambas was killed when his Volkswagen burst into flames on the Brooklyn Bridge Wednesday morning, police said.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- A Scarsdale man caught in a fiery six-car pile-up on the Brooklyn Bridge died after his car burst into flames, police said.

Kristopher Hambas, 32, was killed after a 2004 Ford pick-up truck rear-ended his 2017 Volkswagen on the Brooklyn-bound side of the Bridge at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, said police.

The 48-year-old Ford driver has just slammed into a 2017 Nissan, which careened into the center median, when it struck Hambas' car and rammed it into the southern cement barrier, police said.

The Volkswagen burst into flames when it crashed into a 2006 GMC SUV, which hit a 2003 GMC SUV, which hit a 2010 Jeep Liberty, police said.

Emergency responders found three cars on fire and only discovered Hambas' body after the flames had been put out, police said.

The 51-year-old 2006 GMC driver and the Ford driver, both of whom suffered non-life-threatening injuries, were taken to Brooklyn Hospital, according to police.

The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad made no immediate arrests but will continue to investigate, police said.
